What Causes face Redness?

The embarrassing and unsightly redness on the face, neck, and other areas can be debilitating for some people. These patches of redness can give the impression that a person is unhealthy, is an alcoholic, or is infected with a disease. If you suffer from red blotches on your face, neck or other regions, one of the first steps to address this problem is to determine the cause.

 Getting to the Cause

There are several reasons that may cause skin redness:

1. Heredity – some people have genetic traits that cause red patches to appear. This is by far the most difficult to address, but the affects can be minimized by taking extra skin care steps and working with a dermatologist.
2. Allergies – certain types of lotions, scrubs, cleansers or creams can cause an allergic reaction in some people. If you have skin redness, consider changing your products to see if that can help. Also certain times of the year may cause more skin allergies. Just as our sinuses react to pollen, our skin can react to airborne allergens like pollen, dirt, dust, sprays, smoke, and more.
3. Skin care – keeping your skin clean and your pores clear can help greatly in reducing skin redness. Review your current skin care regimen to determine if you are taking the proper steps. Clean skin twice a day and follow up with a moisturizer and proper skin protection to minimize exposure to damaging elements.
4. Sun and wind – the harmful UV rays from the sun can wreak havoc on your skin. Be sure it is protected from these rays with clothing, wraps and sunscreen with a high SPF rating. The wind can chafe your skin so it is best to keep it covered and protected with skin conditioners as well.

You can minimize and often eliminate skin redness completely by first identifying the cause and then working to rejuvenate your skin.
