Insights on How the Environment Harm Your Skin

Your skin is very resilient in many ways. If you consider all of the attacks on your skin that occur every day, it really is an amazing organ. Because your skin is so important, it is crucial that you keep it as healthy as possible.

One of the daily attacks on your skin is the environment. There are numerous elements that come in contact with your skin regularly.  These elements can contribute to dry skin, flaky skin, itchy skin, and redness on the face, neck and other areas of your body.
Elements that affect your Skin

Some of the elements that can harm your skin include:

• Sun – the sun emits harmful UV rays that can damage the surface of your skin and even beneath your skin layers.  Protecting your skin from the sun can be one of the most important skin care practices.
Wind – strong winds can chafe skin and cause redness.  In some cases you can even get wind burn with prolonged exposure.  Covering skin as much as possible on windy days can help greatly, along with protective skin creams or lotions.
• Extreme heat or cold – dramatic changes in temperatures requires your skin to quickly react and attempt to adjust.  Some skin can become red or itchy as it attempts to adjust to these temperature changes.  Some form of protective lotion or proper covering can help ease the transition.
• Dust and dirt – even the cleanest rooms can have lingering dust and dirt traveling in the air or on surfaces.  These particles can land on your skin and cause irritation and redness.
• Chemicals – many types of chemicals travel in the air each day.  The chemicals can be cleaners, perfumes, sprays and other particles.  Some skin can become sensitive to these chemicals and react with redness, itchiness, or even blemishes.

Keeping your skin clean can help greatly to reduce harm from the environment.  Also using protection such as lotions with SPF, moisturizers and other products can help your skin to remain resilient and stay healthy.
